Breastfeeding : the extraordinary bond between you and your baby

You carried your baby inside you for 9 months. And now, he or she is here, in your arms, the best place in the world. Since they were born, you have nursed them and, through breastfeeding, you are in the process of creating a wonderful, unbreakable bond with your baby…

The miracle of breastfeeding

There is nothing more natural, and nothing more extraordinary: your body, after pregnancy, is capable of feeding your baby. In the very first few hours, they turned to your breast and since then, it is your milk that has given them everything they need to grow, gain weight and develop. But each breastfeeding session is also an intimate and beautiful moment that only you can share with them. Beyond the nourishing aspect, you are forming a bond of love with your baby.

Breastfeeding, a story of smells…

Did you know? When it comes to breastfeeding, it’s a matter of familiar smells: your baby recognises your smell1 , it’s the one they got to know first and the one they recognise amongst all others. In the same way that you know your baby’s smell. They also recognise the smell of your milk, and it is through this mutual recognition of smell that the bond with your baby is formed.

And a matter of trust

Each breastfeeding session is a moment of unique closeness and incredible sharing: it’s a matter of trust, a story that begins, repeats and grows along the way. Because you meet their needs by breastfeeding them, you are the person your baby trusts most. And you? By breastfeeding, by sharing this tender moment of togetherness, you prove to yourself that you are competent, that you are a wonderful mum: you can be proud of yourself and of the two of you. If, however, you don’t manage the breastfeed, you must never blame yourself, as this happens to a lot of women. Don’t hesitate to talk to somebody about it if you are having problems, and remember that the most important thing you can give your baby is your love!

WHO recommends breastfeeding exclusively for the first 6 months and then continuation thereof until the age of 2 alongside the introduction, from 6 months, of safe and appropriate complementary foods.
